BLACKBOOK'S VYOU is UP →
caytegrieve:
As the social media woman of the house, I will be spending time answering questions from the interwebs on behalf of BlackBook and the BlackBook family. Sometimes, I will connect you with other BlackBookers, and have them answer questions from the interwebs. Sometimes, while interviewing bands or celebrities or nobodies, I will alert the interwebs so that they can ask these special...

MY SUPER BIG DUMB IDEA THAT SAVES EVERYONE,...
Everyone knows this experience:
You click that little wifi icon in the upper right of your screen (or, Ohmygod Cretin From 4th Century BC, lower right, crazy windows user!) and you select a network to connect to. And then it connects…. and then you wait… and it sorta/maybe works… or it doesn’t… and then you choose another network… or, whah!
Has no one ever...
I wish I could short Facebook.
– Now wait, I think this is all wrong, but that line is actually kinda genius. There should be a second market for the second market.
I just created your next startup.
Floozy
Let’s bring that word back, m’kay?
The New York Times Introduces a Web Site →
15 years ago today, NYTimes.com launched.
The electronic newspaper (address: http:/www.nytimes.com) is part of a strategy to extend the readership of The Times and to create opportunities for the company in the electronic media industry.
Good luck with that.
[This Is What Insidery Looked Like in 1996]
Metafilter says Plastic is dead. Also, Polly Esther is now working for Murdoch. Has anyone seen Carl?
New York's 'It' Startup Throws a Party →
All of this makes me so nervous. Every night is another launch/funding party.
These Are the Gayest Cities in America →

Too Spinsidery →
In the history of the internet, which post has had the lowest uniques-to-comments ratio of all time? This is my guess.

Nice job, Steve.
Your Counter-Intuitive Thought For The Day
“The NYTimes.com paywall will be a success.” —Dumenco
Hedging only slightly, he follows it up with, “Not necessarily a huge success, and not necessarily right out of the gate, but it will be a success with a critical mass of subscribers.”
Did You Hear About The AZ Shooting Through... →
Evolving thought: Maybe we need to completely jettison the “where did you first hear about ____” notion of news. Because, seriously, who cares? The question should probably become: “Where did you go next?”
(Update: I’m gathering anecdotes on where people first heard about the AZ shooting. A lot of people are citing Soup. Interesting.)
Go Ahead, Kick Me In The Face, Or Better Yet,... →
…but seriously you guys, Rachelle’s Reading List is one of the best things on the internet right now. Seriously.
No one’s asking for strategy advice, but mine would be: “Toss most of Guest Of A Guest’s content out, keep the calendar, maybe keep the party photos because they make money, and rebuild the whole thing as a link blog, like a super tumblr with hot people...
The Worst-Kept Secret In New York Tech →
Well, it’s not such a “secret,” so it can’t be “worst-kept,” but it actually is a pretty nice space. We are officing here and so are, oh gosh, maybe 20 startups, all small, some that we’re working with. No one here likes the analogy for obvious reasons, but the quick phrase “Soho House for Startups” kinda sorta works, and also completely misses...
